The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has granted exceptional posthumous promotions (KPLB) to three members of the Katingan Police’s Narcotics Unit in Central Kalimantan who died in the line of duty while uncovering a drug case. Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, explained that the award was given as a form of appreciation for the sacrifice of the personnel who died while on duty. “In principle, we, the National Police, are mourning because our best personnel have fallen in the line of duty in Central Kalimantan,” Johnny said at the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) headquarters on Monday, 6 July 2026. Johnny added that the three fallen officers had received posthumous promotions.

Previously, three suspected perpetrators of the attack on police officers during a drug raid in Tumbang Kalemei Village, Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan, were arrested. Katingan Police Chief, AKBP Dodik Hartono, revealed that the three suspects who have been detained have the initials N, R, and S. He added that the three were arrested in different locations in the Central Katingan region, with the arrests taking place up until Sunday, 5 July 2026.

The incident occurred when personnel from the Katingan Police Narcotics Unit were taking action against a suspected methamphetamine dealer in Tumbang Kalemei Village in the early hours of Thursday, 2 July. During the operation, officers reportedly faced resistance from a number of individuals armed with sharp weapons. In the incident, Aipda Yudhi Perdana Putra died while on duty. Bripda Nopandri Ramadhana was later found dead in the Katingan River after being reported missing. Meanwhile, the search for Aiptu Sumaryanto is still being carried out by a joint team. Dodik stressed that the police are committed to thoroughly investigating the case and hunting down all parties suspected of being involved in the attack on police personnel.
