Three Points in Bahlil's Report to Prabowo: From Battery Factories to Electricity Issues
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, revealed three main points reported to President Prabowo Subianto during a meeting held at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (22/06/2026).
He detailed that the first point discussed pertained to the evaluation of the national downstreaming programme, which is currently progressing across various strategic sectors.
“Since some are already operational, we also reported to the President that our downstreaming programme for the electric vehicle battery ecosystem, a collaboration between CATL and Antam, is complete and, God willing, will be inaugurated at the end of July. It is finished,” Bahlability stated at the Palace, Jakarta, Monday (22/06/2026).
Secondly, the report addressed the state of national energy security. Bahlil noted that the government continues to strive to strengthen energy reserves to ensure domestic supply security.
“Secondly, we also held a meeting with the President to discuss our energy. Our energy security will be able to maintain an average of at least 20 days,” he said.
Furthermore, the third point concerned the stability of electricity services provided by PT PLN (Persero) to the public. During the meeting, the government and PLN evaluated several issues that could potentially affect the reliability of the electricity supply.
“Together with the President Director of PLN, we have dissected three problems. One of them concerns the Gas Turbine Power Plants (PLTG) at the beginning,” he said.
Bahlil explained that PLN’s coal consumption actually reaches approximately 154 million tonnes per year. Meanwhile, the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) for coal supply assigned by the Ministry of ESDM to mining companies reaches around 180 million to 190 million tonnes per year. The volume of coal currently contracted by PLN stands at approximately 134 million tonnes.
“In reality, the contract between PLN and entrepreneurs is 134 million for one year. It is only June now, so there should be no issue. However, what PLN is complaining about, or what PLN is requesting, is medium-calorie coal for blending. We have ensured that there is no longer a problem and the government has assisted PLN in its implementation. Beyond that, we have requested PLN to immediately perform maintenance to truly ensure service certainty for the community,” he explained.
