Three pipe bombs found by residents following a social conflict in East Adonara District, Flores Timur, have been destroyed by the bomb squad (Jibom) of the Gegana Detachment, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Police Mobile Brigade. The disposal was carried out to ensure there is no further potential danger from the explosives discovered by the community after the conflict between residents of Bele Hamlet, Waiburak Village, and Lewonara Hamlet, Narasaosina Village, East Adonara District.

“We appreciate the community’s concern in immediately reporting the discovery of suspicious objects to the police. This step is very important so that the Jibom Team can immediately carry out sterilization, security, and disposal according to applicable operational standards,” said Flores Timur Police Chief, Adjunct Senior Commissioner of Police Adhitya Octorio Putra, on Friday, July 24, 2026.

He explained that the first pipe bomb was found by a resident while picking tamarind in the area of a garbage dump in Bele Hamlet. Shortly after, residents found two more pipe bombs in the yard of the Waiburak Village Chief. The Jibom Team immediately secured and evacuated the evidence to a safe location for disposal.

Based on the identification by the Jibom Team, the three pipe bombs were low-explosive devices. However, the Flores Timur Police Chief emphasized that even low-explosive bombs remain dangerous if subjected to impact, friction, or other triggers.

“Although the explosive power is classified as low, these objects are still dangerous to public safety. Therefore, we decided to carry out disposal according to standard operating procedures until all the bombs were successfully neutralized and no longer posed a threat,” he said.

The Police Chief also appealed to the public not to touch or move any objects suspected of being explosives if found. “Immediately report to the police or the nearest security personnel if you find suspicious objects. Do not try to hold, move, or dismantle them yourself because it could endanger your safety,” he said.

He added that the Flores Timur Police, together with the NTT Police Mobile Brigade and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), continue to conduct patrols, security operations, and monitoring in the East Adonara area to maintain a conducive security situation during the post-conflict recovery process.
