Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) for Jakarta has revealed that three people died after being buried by a landslide of waste at Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility in Desa Ciketing Udik, Bantargebang district, Bekasi City. Jakarta SAR Office chief Desiana Kartika Bahari stated in Jakarta on Sunday that the three victims comprise two women and one man, who were the owners of a small shop and a truck driver. ‘The victims are Enda Widayanti (25) and Sumine (60), both shop owners, while the third victim is Dedi Sutrisno, a truck driver,’ she said. Desiana added that authorities are still compiling the data as many waste trucks were buried and shops at the site were affected. ‘For now we are compiling the number of casualties,’ she noted. She also said that personnel from the Bekasi SAR Sector, the Bekasi City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Kota Bekasi) and the DKI Jakarta Province BPBD have been deployed. Equipment has also been mobilised to assist with the evacuation. Earlier, a video circulated on Instagram by account @lbj_jakarta showing the Bantargebang waste mountain collapsing again, with several trucks buried. ‘The incident, which occurred around 15:30 WIB, was triggered by heavy rainfall that has drenched Bekasi since this afternoon. The waste mound, reaching a critical height, became unstable and spilled material to block the road and bury the trucks queuing to unload,’ the post read.
