Three Pakistani Warships Dock in Jakarta Waters: What’s Happening?

Three Pakistani warships—Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Taimur, the Hangor submarine, and PNS Aslat—docked in Jakarta as part of a courtesy visit to the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) to strengthen bilateral ties.

The ships’ arrival occurred on Tuesday, 19 May, and they were greeted by Assistant Operations of the Navy Regional Command III (Kodaeral III), Colonel of the Navy (ret.) Boy Yopi Hamel, at the IKT Wharf, the former President’s Wharf, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.

In a Kodaeral III press release issued in Jakarta on Thursday, Boy Yopi Hamel said the visit is part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia–Pakistan relations. ‘The presence of the three Pakistani warships in Jakarta is not merely a technical stopover; it is a strong symbol of the bilateral relationship. We hope the synergy between the TNI-AL and the Pakistan Navy will grow closer, and that it will also be a positive platform for cultural exchange between the two nations,’ he said.

After the welcome at Tanjung Priok, the Pakistan Navy delegation, led by Commander of Destroyer Squadron 18 and Mission Commander, Commodore Omar Farooq SI (M), proceeded to the Kodaeral III headquarters in North Jakarta.

At the headquarters, Omar and the delegation were greeted by Kodaeral III staff for a closed bilateral meeting.

During their stay in Jakarta, the Pakistani crew are scheduled to take part in various activities, including a courtesy call on senior TNI-AL officials, a friendship sports match, a diplomatic reception aboard the Pakistani warship, and a programme of city visits and open-ship days for TNI-AL personnel and the general public.
