Three Out of Ten Gen Z Unemployed, Their Future Becoming Increasingly Dire
In its rapid development over the past few years, AI has had an extraordinary impact on the world of work. Many companies have carried out layoffs with the rationale of focusing on using AI. This impact will not subside in the near future. One of them affects Generation Z, who are said to face higher unemployment in the future. ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott stated that AI will make the future dire for Gen Z. At least one in three young people will be unemployed in the future. “I think it’s reasonable to worry about jobs. I think the current graduates are experiencing a 9% unemployment rate,” McDermott said, quoted from Futurism, Wednesday (25/3/2026). “That figure could rise to 30% in the next few years,” he added. The reason, he explained, is that more jobs will be done by agents. So this will be a challenge for young people. Although the impact is quite massive for workers and their families, the development of AI apparently will never stop. McDermott did not mention slowing down the pace of AI in the future. On the contrary, his attitude is very enthusiastic about the development of AI in the future. He said there will be billions of users in the future. “We will have billions of users in a few years that couldn’t be achieved by humans,” he said.
