Three NTT Earthquake Victims Evacuated by Helicopter to Labuan Bajo
A joint SAR team has evacuated three victims suffering from broken bones following the earthquake to Siloam Hospital in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. The victims of the magnitude 7.7 earthquake were evacuated using a helicopter from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).
Basarnas chief Air Marshal Mohammad Syafii said the evacuation was carried out using a Dauphin AS 365 N3+ HR-3604 helicopter on standby at Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo. The helicopter was deployed after the joint SAR team received information that three victims had suffered fractures and dislocations as a result of the earthquake.
“All three suffered fractures and bone dislocations,” Syafii said on Tuesday (18/8/2026).
The three victims are residents of Haju Wangi Village and Satar Padut Village in North Lamba Leda District, East Manggarai. One of them is a five-year-old child.
“The Basarnas Dauphin helicopter arrived at the Satar Kampas main command post at 10.28 Wita and then transported the three victims to Labuan Bajo. The helicopter landed safely at Komodo Airport at 11.00 Wita,” he added.
Upon arrival at Komodo Airport, all victims were immediately taken to hospital for further medical treatment. Syafii asked the entire joint SAR team to remain on full alert in handling and evacuating victims.
“Let us ensure that Basarnas together with SAR Potential are always present for affected communities, particularly in the East Manggarai, Manggarai, and Nagekeo areas,” Syafii said.
Previously, the earthquake that struck Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara killed 69 people. A further 331 people were injured, while 34,689 residents were forced to evacuate.
The data is from the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) report as of Tuesday (18/8/2026) at 09.00 Wita. The highest number of fatalities was in Manggarai Regency with 26 deaths, followed by East Manggarai (25), Nagekeo (8), Sikka (4), and West Manggarai, Ende, and Ngada with two fatalities each.
