Three netted for housing immigrants
MALACCA, Malaysia (AFP): Malaysian police yesterday detained
three people, including an Indonesian with permanent resident
status, under Malaysia's Internal Security Act (ISA) for
allegedly harboring illegal Indonesian immigrants.
"We are investigating their modus operandi and their
connections as they have been operating for several years," said
Arthur Edmonds, Malacca state police chief.
Edmonds said the three, aged between 38 and 45, were picked up
in separate operations late Monday and early yesterday, adding
that all three were suspected of assisting illegal Indonesian
immigrants enter the country, or providing them with
shelter.
The latest arrests brings the total number detained under the
ISA to five. Last week a lorry driver and a police lance-corporal
were detained for bringing in and harboring illegal immigrants.
