Three nabbed after clash

JAKARTA (JP): Police nabbed three men shortly after a clash on Jl. Pemuda in East Jakarta on Thursday for allegedly being involved in the violence.

The clash occurred as police and the East Jakarta fire agency were jointly working to extinguish a minor fire at the East Jakarta branch office of the city land transportation agency.

There were no details about what sparked the clash in which several people were injured.

According to firefighter Sariman, the clash involved two groups of residents on Jl. Pemuda.

"They (the residents) tried to set fire to the office which was also burned in the mid-May rioting, but the fire was not too big so it was easily extinguished," he told Antara.

An official of the Pulogadung police subprecinct who declined to be named confirmed the clash.

There were no further details on the fate of the three men, whether they were detained or merely questioned. (emf)
