Three murder suspects near SMAN 3 Jogja arrested in Cilacap; three others still at large
Police have arrested three perpetrators of the murder of a youth identified as AA (18) near SMAN 3 Jogja. In addition, police are still pursuing three perpetrators who are at large.
‘So, we are still chasing the three suspects. We urge their parents to hand over their sons promptly, because our country is a rule-of-law state. Any act that violates the law, especially taking a life, will be dealt with in accordance with the applicable rules, of course,’ said Jogja City Police Chief, Kombes Eva Guna Pandia, when met at the Jogja City Police Headquarters, Wednesday (20 May 2026).
As for the three suspects, Pandia said they have already been secured by the police. The three suspects were arrested in Cilacap.
‘Alhamdulillah, thanks to the prayers of colleagues and the public, for the stabbing suspect near Kridosono, earlier at dawn, the Head of Reskrim together with the team joined with Jatanras Polda and managed to arrest three people in the Cilacap area. One student, two adults,’ he said.
‘Their role is the executor. The suspects fled there (to Cilacap).’
Earlier, street violence or klitih occurred near SMAN 3 Jogja or around Kridosono Stadium, Yogyakarta City. In that incident one person died after being assaulted by perpetrators with a sharp weapon.
Yogyakarta Police’s Head of Public Relations, Kompol Riski Adrian, explained the victim who died was a youth identified as AA (18). The incident occurred on Sunday (17 May) in the early hours.
‘The victim with initials AA, born 2008. The incident happened in the early hours, around 03:30 WIB,’ Adrian said when contacted by reporters on Sunday (17 May).
Adrian explained that after the incident the victim was transported to Panti Rapih hospital. However, the victim was later pronounced dead.
‘Earlier the victim was taken to Panti Rapih. Because it was ruled dead, we are now diverting it to Bhayangkara for autopsy,’ Adrian said.
Separately, Public Relations Head of the Yogyakarta Police, Iptu Dani Hasan, added that early investigative results show the case began when the victim and witnesses were chased by the suspected perpetrators. Both the victim and the perpetrators were riding a motorcycle from Jalan Magelang.
Dani said the perpetrators assaulted the victim using a sharp weapon.
‘When they reached the south gate of SMAN-3 Yka (Yogyakarta) the victim got off the motorcycle and was immediately assaulted by the perpetrators with a sharp weapon,’ Dani said.
After the incident, the victim’s friends attempted to take him to hospital.
‘When witnesses and the victim arrived at Jl. I Dewa Nyoman Oka Kotabaru Yogyakarta, the victim fell. He was helped by locals and taken to hospital in a church ambulance,’ he concluded.
