Three Motorcycle Thieves in Tangerang Arrested Thanks to GPS Tracking
The Criminal Investigation Unit of Jatiuwung Police Sector has uncovered a motor vehicle theft case. Three people were arrested in Karawang Regency, West Java.
“The speed of our officers in responding to public reports was one of the keys to successfully solving this case,” said Tangerang City Police Chief Commissioner Raden Muhammad Jauhari on Monday (20/7/2026).
Armed with a GPS signal still active on the victim’s vehicle, police pursued the perpetrators all the way to Karawang Regency. Jatiuwung Police Chief Commissioner Kresna Ajie Perkasa personally led the investigation, together with the head of the Jatiuwung Criminal Investigation Unit, Inspector Dimas Maulana, and the operational team as part of Operation Berantas Jaya 2026.
The theft occurred in front of a rented house on Pajajaran Raya Street, Dumping Village, Gandasari Sub-district, Jatiuwung District, Tangerang City, on Thursday (16/7) at around 03:30 Western Indonesia Time.
The victim, Yohanis Lefteuw, had earlier parked his Honda motorcycle with the handlebars locked while visiting a friend’s house. However, when he returned home several hours later, the motorcycle had vanished from the parking spot.
The victim then reported the incident to Jatiuwung Police Sector. When filing the report, the victim also mentioned that his motorcycle was fitted with a GPS device. Officers immediately used this information to track the victim’s motorcycle.
The GPS trace led to the Cibuaya area of Karawang Regency. The Jatiuwung Criminal Investigation Unit moved swiftly to the location and found the victim’s motorcycle parked in front of the house of one of the suspects.
At the scene, police secured three individuals with the initials M, E and D, along with three motorcycles believed to be linked to the crime. Preliminary examination revealed that the victim’s motorcycle was allegedly about to be resold after being received from another perpetrator, who is now on the police wanted list (DPO).
In addition to securing the suspects, police also seized a number of items of evidence, including the victim’s motorcycle, two other motorcycles, vehicle documents, several spare keys, and two mobile phones.
“We will continue to take firm action against street criminals and networks that fence stolen goods, so that the security and public order situation remains safe and conducive,” he said.
He also urged the public to be more vigilant when parking their vehicles by using additional security locks and, if possible, installing GPS tracking devices as a precautionary measure.
“We call on the public not to be complacent when parking their vehicles and to report immediately if they become victims of crime. Public participation is of great assistance to the police in solving crimes quickly,” he said.
The three suspects are currently being held at Jatiuwung Police Sector for further investigation. Meanwhile, police are still hunting one other perpetrator, who is on the wanted list and is believed to be the main actor in the motorbike theft case.
