Three Motorcycle Thieves in Tangerang Arrested Thanks to GPS Tracking

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jatiuwung Police has uncovered a case of motor vehicle theft, arresting three individuals in Karawang Regency, West Java. The Metro Tangerang City Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Raden Muhammad Jauhari, stated on Monday that the officers’ rapid response to the public report was a key factor in the successful resolution of the case. Armed with the GPS signal that was still active on the victim’s vehicle, police pursued the perpetrators to Karawang Regency. The operation was led directly by the Jatiuwung Police Chief, Commissioner Kresna Ajie Perkasa, alongside the Criminal Investigation Unit head, First Inspector Dimas Maulana, and the operational team as part of Operation Berantas Jaya 2026. The theft occurred in front of a rented house on Jalan Pajajaran Raya, Dumpit Village, Gandasari Urban Village, Jatiuwung District, Tangerang City, on Thursday, 16 July, at around 3:30 AM Western Indonesian Time. The victim, Yohanis Lefteuw, had parked his Honda motorcycle with the handlebars locked while visiting a friend’s house. When he was about to leave a few hours later, the motorcycle had disappeared from its parking spot. The victim subsequently reported the incident to the Jatiuwung Police. While filing the report, he informed officers that his motorcycle was equipped with a GPS tracking device. Police immediately used this information to track the vehicle, and the signal led them to the Cibuaya area in Karawang Regency. The Jatiuwung Police team moved quickly to the location and found the victim’s motorcycle in front of a suspect’s house. At the scene, police apprehended three individuals with the initials M, E, and D, and seized three motorcycles believed to be connected to the crime. Initial investigations suggest the stolen motorcycle was to be sold on after being received from another perpetrator who has now been placed on the wanted list. In addition to the suspects, police confiscated several pieces of evidence, including the victim’s motorcycle, two other motorcycles, vehicle documents, several keys, and two mobile phones. The police chief affirmed that firm action will continue to be taken against street criminals and networks of stolen goods receivers to maintain public safety and order. He also urged the public to be more vigilant when parking vehicles, to use additional security locks, and, where possible, to install GPS trackers as a precautionary measure. The three suspects are currently being held at the Jatiuwung Police station for further investigation, while police continue to pursue a fourth suspect who is now on the wanted list and believed to be the main perpetrator of the theft.
