Three million letters per day

JAKARTA (JP): The Pasar Baru post office is expected to handle
more than three million letters on Wednesday and Thursday in
connection with the Islamic holiday of Idul Fitri which will fall
on Friday and Saturday.

"This is fourfold the number we usually receive," head of the
office, Sunarto Sudiono told Antara yesterday.

On regular days, he said, his office receives an average of
700,000 letters per day.

Sunarto said to overcome this "problem" his office has
recruited 296 part time employees, including high school students
and college students. The recruitment of the students is in line
with the city's program of providing positive activities for
students during their holidays, he added. (bas)
