Three Messages from Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad at the 2026 Lunar New Year Celebration
Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad, together with Deputy Mayor Li Claudia Chandra, attended the Lunar New Year celebration held at Swiss-Belhotel Harbour Bay on Monday evening (16/2/2026).
In his address, Amsakar Achmad said the turn of the year carries significance as both a moment of reflection and a compass for the future of Batam’s community.
Amsakar Achmad highlighted three key points requiring collective attention:
- An evaluation of what was accomplished in the previous year
- The steps to be taken in the current year
- The broader goals to be achieved in the future
The Batam Mayor said the momentum of the new year must strengthen the community’s collective spirit to continue building collaboration and reinforcing synergy in order to drive Batam’s development forward.
On the occasion, Amsakar Achmad also called on all residents to safeguard Batam as a “shared home.”
Amsakar affirmed that Batam’s diversity is a strength that must be nurtured, not a difference that divides.
“Diversity, multiculturalism, and heterogeneity must be understood like an orchestration. If arranged well, they will produce beautiful harmony,” said Amsakar Achmad.
He assessed that Batam continues to be one of the most conducive regions, with an excellent level of religious tolerance and moderation.
He also stressed that building tolerance means building social harmony, which ultimately serves as a vital foundation for regional progress.
