Three men shot during separate city robberies
JAKARTA (JP): Three men were shot, two to death, in three separate robbery incidents in the capital on Wednesday.
Police detectives have yet to identify the passenger of a Mitsubishi Kuda van, who, while immobilized in heavy traffic, shot a man who was busy stealing his van's side-mirror. The incident took place in front of Ganesha Bank on Jl. Hayam Wuruk in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.
"The dead man was later identified as Lutfi, alias Cuping. His two accomplices, who had been with him during the attempted theft, fled after hearing gunfire," Gambir police subprecinct chief Comr. Nurhadi told reporters.
Quoting eyewitnesses, Nurhadi said Cuping had managed to run a few meters after getting shot, and then he collapsed suddenly, and died. Police found the side-view mirror on Cuping, along with two syringes.
Nurhadi said police had no clue as to who the individual who fired the gun was, and were still investigating the case.
Meanwhile, two unidentified men shot a driver, Agus Norwina, 31, to death, on Jl. Karang Tritis, Ancol, North Jakarta, and made away with the Escudo van belonging to his employer.
North Jakarta Police detectives said that Agus was waiting with the van for his boss outside a Chinese elementary school on Jl. Karang Tritis. Agus' employer reportedly wanted to pick up her kid from school.
"Suddenly, two men approached Agus, one shot him in the chest, and left him dying," a detective said.
In a separate development, East Jakarta Police detectives are looking for four men over the shooting of a man in a Rp 100 million (US$9,200) midday robbery on Jl. I Gusti Ngurah Rai in Jatinegara, East Jakarta.
Chief of detectives Adj. Comr. Agus Irianto identified the victim as Edi Afrizal, 30, the owner of a jewelry shop, specializing in gold, who was shot in his thigh.
"Edi got a good look at the man who fired the gun, reportedly a Colt revolver, at about 1:10 p.m. We are still investigating this case," Agus told reporters on Wednesday.
Agus said that Edi was returning to his jewelry shop, Sinar Agung, in Jatinegara, from another similar type shop in Klender, East Jakarta, where he had just sold gold jewelry for Rp 100 million.
"He was returning to his shop with relatives, Dedi and Helmy, in their Escudo van of registration number B 358 NY. When they reached Jl. I Gusti Ngurah Rai, two motorcycles appeared out of nowhere, and fired at Edi's car window," Agus told reporters.
"Edi was hit in the thigh. We are still searching for the robbers. Edi is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in East Jakarta."
