Three Men Assault Railway Crossing Guard After Being Reprimanded for Breaking Through Barrier
A video showing the assault of a railway crossing guard in Garut Regency, West Java, has gone viral on social media. The incident was allegedly triggered by the perpetrators’ anger at being reprimanded after they broke through the crossing while the barrier was already closed. The incident took place at the JPL 227 Leuwigoeng level crossing guard post. In the widely circulated video footage, the perpetrators can be seen chasing the guard into the post building. Although the details of what happened inside the room were not fully recorded, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has confirmed that the officer was a victim of physical violence. “The guard at JPL 227 Leuwigoeng suffered bruising to the face and scratches on the hands,” said Kuswardojo, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Operational Area 2, on Tuesday (14/7/2026). According to gathered data, the incident occurred on Sunday (12/7) at around 14.00 Western Indonesia Time. It began when the officer, having received information that the Serayu train was approaching, closed the crossing gate. However, after the gate was closed, a motorcyclist broke through. Seeing this dangerous action, the officer reprimanded the rider. “But the reprimand was met with an arrogant response. The rider returned to the post with two other people and assaulted the officer,” Kuswardoyo explained. As a result of the incident, the officer sustained bruising to the face and scratches on the hands. Kuswardojo stated that the company strongly condemns such arrogant behaviour. Regarding the incident, Garut Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Herman Saputra explained that his party is currently hunting for the three men who carried out the thuggish act against the railway crossing guard. “The case is currently under investigation,” he said.
