The organisation of the Hajj pilgrimage in 1447 H/2026 AD faces several major challenges, ranging from changes in the demographics of pilgrims to global geopolitical dynamics. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) is preparing various anticipatory steps to ensure that services remain optimal.

This was highlighted during the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) for the Consolidation of Hajj Pilgrimage Organisation held at the Class I Hajj Dormitory in Tangerang on Wednesday (8/4/2026). The Rakernas adopted the theme “Transformative Inclusive Hajj Organisation in the Face of Global Geopolitical Dynamics Challenges”.

The Secretary General of Kemenhaj RI, Teguh Dwi Nugroho, revealed that there are at least three main challenges facing this year’s Hajj organisation.

“The selection of this theme is not without philosophical or sociological foundations. We deliberately raised this theme as a proactive response to the three strategic challenges we currently face,” said Teguh at the opening event of the Rakernas at the Grand El Hajj Hajj Dormitory in Tangerang on Wednesday (8/4/2026) evening.

The first challenge is the demographic changes among Indonesian Hajj pilgrims. He explained that there has been a significant increase in the number of elderly pilgrims, people with disabilities, and women.

This condition, according to Teguh, demands a change in approach to Hajj services. The organisation can no longer be carried out with a standard pattern, but must be more adaptive and oriented towards the specific needs of pilgrims.

“This fact demands that the ministry change its paradigm from standard organisation to highly adaptive, humane, and inclusive services,” said Teguh.
