Three live grenades found in Yogyakarta

YOGYAKARTA: Three live grenades were found on Thursday near Progo River in Bantul, Yogyakarta province.

"The grenades were discovered by three sand miners," said the deputy chief of the Bantul Police, Comr. Hudit Wahyudi.

After the sand miners had reported the grenades, the police subsequently retrieved and secured them.

Similar finds occur regularly in the province, whose people spearheaded resistance against the Dutch colonialists. Yogyakarta was the Indonesian capital before it was moved to Jakarta. A number of battles took place in the province after Indonesia's declaration of independence in 1945. -- Antara
