Three Leaders Named KPK Suspects, This is Unsoed's Official Statement

Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) Purwokerto has expressed deep concern after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named three of its leaders as suspects. The three leaders are Unsoed Rector Akhmad Sodiq, Vice Rector III Norman Arie Prayogo, and Head of Academic Affairs Eko Sumanto.

The suspect designation relates to alleged extortion and gratification in the new student admissions process. The case emerged after the anti-corruption agency conducted a sting operation against the parties involved.

Vice Rector IV for Planning, Cooperation, and Public Relations at Unsoed, Waluyo Handoko, stressed that the institution views this incident as a serious matter. According to him, the actions have damaged the values of integrity and public trust in the administration of higher education.

“Unsoed expresses its deepest concern. The institution views this matter as a serious incident that has damaged the values of integrity, justice, and public trust,” Waluyo said in an official statement on Saturday (22/8).

Despite facing legal turmoil, Unsoed has guaranteed that all academic, research, and public service activities will continue to operate normally. The campus has assured that this transition period will not disrupt students’ rights to receive educational services.

Unsoed is currently coordinating intensively with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. The coordination is being carried out to determine institutional steps, including the mechanism for appointing acting officials to fill the leadership vacancies affected.

Waluyo added that the university fully respects the legal process at the KPK and continues to uphold the principle of presumption of innocence. He also urged the entire academic community, from lecturers to students, to remain calm and maintain a conducive campus environment.

As an evaluation measure, Unsoed is committed to carrying out continuous governance improvements. The main focus of the improvements is directed at the new student admissions system to make it more transparent, accountable, and free from corrupt, collusive, and nepotistic practices in the future.
