Three Land Plots in Tanah Abang Confirmed as State Assets, People's Housing Ready to be Built
The government has affirmed that three plots of land in the Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta, are state assets and are ready to be utilised for the construction of people’s housing.
This certainty was conveyed by the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, following a meeting with Danantara Indonesia, the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Body (BP BUMN), the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI in Jakarta on Friday (17/4/2026).
“When I went there, we had already consulted and were confident it was state land. However, there were other parties who were not yet convinced. Today, we consulted again with Danantara Indonesia to confirm the land’s status with (the Ministry of) ATR/BPN. If it is clear as a state asset, it will be used for the interests of the state and the people,” Ara emphasised.
KAI’s Deputy Director Dody Budiawan explained that there are three land locations in question.
“We can explain that the railway land there consists of three locations. First, at Pasar Tasik, covering 1.3 hectares according to the ground cut. Then there are two adjacent plots that we call Tanah Abang demolition land, according to HPL (Management Right) certificates number 17 and 19, with a total of around three hectares,” Dody clarified.
He added that KAI will begin taking steps to affirm ownership of the asset by installing markers at the location.
“We will install signs explaining the data regarding the asset, stating that the asset belongs to KAI,” he said.
The Director General of Land Dispute and Conflict Handling (Dirjen PSKP) of the Ministry of ATR/BPN, Iljas Tedjo Prijono, stated that the land is registered in the name of KAI with HPL status numbers 17 and 19.
“Previously, it was in the name of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), entrusted in 1988, then granted HPL in 2008 in the name of PT KAI,” Iljas explained.
As it falls under the category of state assets, the government has full authority to defend and utilise it for public interests.
“If it is categorised as an asset, then this is state property, and the state must be present to defend that asset,” he stressed.
The Head of the Anti-Land Mafia Task Force, who is also the Director of Prevention and Handling of Land Conflicts, Police Brigadier General Hendra Gunawan, stated that based on National Land Agency (BPN) data, the land is recorded as a state asset, including in the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu).
The government is committed to utilising these three plots for supporting the development of people’s housing, particularly in urban areas with high housing needs.
