Three Kopdes Manager Candidates Die During Military Basic Training, Palace Responds

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has said there will be an evaluation of military basic training after three participants of the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) programme for the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (KDKMP) and Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih (KNMP) died. Pras, as he is familiarly known, stated that the military basic training for prospective managers of the Kopdes Merah Putih and KNMP would not be halted. “Of course there will be an evaluation. All processes are being reviewed; if there is a procedural error, we will fix it. If a procedural error leads to negligence, that is also part of the evaluation,” Pras said at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (26/6). Prasetyo said no indication of negligence had yet been found in the incident. He noted that the deaths reportedly occurred at the very beginning of the training. “I think not yet, because according to the reports we heard, it was on the first or second day,” he said. Prasetyo expressed concern and deep condolences over the incident. He said President Prabowo was monitoring the deaths of the three participants. “We certainly first express our deep concern and condolences. But let us continue to make improvements,” he said. Previously, the Ministry of Defence conveyed its deep condolences over the deaths of two participants of the 2026 SPPI KDKMP and KNMP programme. Both died while attending Military Basic Training at TNI educational units. Participant Anisa Muyassaroh, who was undergoing training at Satdik Dodikjur Rindam VI/Mulawarman in Balikpapan, experienced health problems on 18 June and received medical treatment at the unit’s health facility before being referred to hospital. “Based on medical information, the individual was declared dead due to heat stroke,” said Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defence Secretariat General, in a written statement on Tuesday (23/6). Meanwhile, participant Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq, who was training at Satdik Puslatpur Kodiklatad in Baturaja, experienced a decline in health on 17 June and was treated by the unit’s medical personnel before being referred to hospital. Rico said that according to medical information, the individual was declared dead due to cardiac arrest. “It should be noted that before joining the programme, both participants had undergone selection stages in accordance with applicable regulations, including health checks, and were declared to have met the requirements to attend the education series,” Rico said. Furthermore, a participant named Novia Rahmadhani Sihotang was reported to have died on Tuesday (23/6). Novia was undergoing training at Satdik Pusbahasa Kodiklatau in Jakarta. “That is correct, the Ministry of Defence has received a report regarding the death of a participant in the 2026 SPPI KNMP Programme named Novia Rahmadhani Sihotang who was undergoing training at Satdik Pusbahasa Kodiklatau Jakarta,” Rico said in a written statement on Wednesday (24/6).
