Three killed, six wounded in fire

At least three persons were killed and six others injured in a fire that gutted a chemical store at Plaza Harmoni in Central Jakarta on Monday.

"The three were found dead, but their deaths were not because of fire but due to smoke inhalation," firefighter Ahmadi said.

The three dead victims, all employees of the chemical store, were identified only as Rani, Meliana and Tjoeng Fong Kiaw, while the injured victims were named as Hartono, Dody, Suryanti, Teti, Finfin and Kartono.

All of the victims were brought to the Tarakan hospital in Central Jakarta after being removed from the scene.

The fire was reportedly triggered by a Molotov cocktail thrown by Iswadi, 29, who had just been fired by PT Panca Kusuma, which owned the store.

Iswadi, who had been working for the company for the past year, was apparently furious at the fact that he had been fired just days before the post-fasting festivities. He is now in police custody.--JP
