Tehran — Three people have been reported killed and 33 others wounded following a combined US and Israeli military strike on Vahdat Fardis District, near the Iranian capital, according to Nour News on Tuesday, 10 March, citing local authorities.

On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched strikes against targets in Iran, resulting in damage and civilian casualties. Iran responded by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.

The US and Israel initially claimed their strikes were necessary to counter what they considered threats from Iran’s nuclear programme. However, they subsequently clarified that the operations were conducted because they sought to effect a change of power in Iran.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on the first day of the US-Israeli military operation. The Islamic Republic of Iran declared a 40-day period of national mourning.

Russian President Vladimir Putin characterised the killing of Khamenei as a brazen violation of international law. Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the US-Israeli operation and called for immediate de-escalation and cessation of hostilities.
