Three Killed in Pulogadung Fire Triggered by Electrical Short Circuit
A number of buildings burned down in Pulogadung, East Jakarta, killing three people. The fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit.
“The cause of the fire is suspected to be an electrical short circuit,” said the Head of Operations of the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department (Gulkarmat), Abdul Wahid, on Monday (13 July 2026).
The fire destroyed a residential house, a grocery store, and a food stall. The blaze broke out in a densely populated settlement on Palad Street, RT 02 RW 03, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on Sunday (12 July) at around 03:00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
“There were three fatalities and one injured victim,” he said.
The three deceased victims were Refalia Maharani Kumbolo (10), Lina Febrianti (40), and Elisalmi (67). The injured victim was Arif Maulana.
The area affected by the fire was approximately 144 square metres. Ten people from four families were affected by the blaze.
“The preliminary suspicion is that the fire first started from one of the electrical sockets, then quickly spread to the interior of the main house owned by Mr Samudi, before eventually spreading to the food stall owned by Mr A and the grocery stores on its left and right,” he explained.
Fourteen fire engines and 60 personnel were deployed to the scene of the fire. The firefighting operation was declared complete at 05:00 WIB.
