Three Killed in Ferry Fire off Sulawesi, Indonesia

Three people lost their lives in a fire aboard a ferry off Sulawesi, Indonesia. The navy reported that 568 people were rescued.

The fire on board KM Barcelona started on Sunday, when the ferry was approximately one hour from the resort town of Likupang in the northern province of Sulawesi. Many passengers jumped into the sea during the blaze.

Local fishermen assisted the coastguard and maritime rescue services. The death toll was initially reported as five, but was later revised downward after two persons who had been reported dead turned up at a hospital.

The ferry had a capacity of 600 passengers.
