Three killed in Cirebon crash

CIREBON, West Java: Three people were killed and dozens of others injured on Monday morning when a public bus crashed into a toll booth at the entrance of the Plumbon toll road in Cirebon.

The dead and the injured were taken to the Gunung Jati Hospital in Cirebon. Two of the fatalities were identified as Satiyem, a resident of Banjarnegara regency, and Mustariah, a resident of Brebes regency in Central Java. The third fatality has not been identified.

All the victims were passengers on the bus.

Witnesses said the accident occurred when the speeding bus lost control as it entered the toll road.

Plumbon Police chief Adj. Comr. Asral said the police were investigating the crash. However, he said preliminary results showed the accident was most likely the result of faulty brakes. -- JP
