Three killed in Bogor crash

BOGOR, West Java (JP): Three people were killed and four people were seriously injured when two public transport vans collided head-on at dawn yesterday on Jl. Baru in Bogor.

Those killed included Syamsuddin, the 23-year-old driver of one of the vans, Saefullah, 25, and Atih, 35. They were all residents of Bogor, Antara reported.

Passengers Junaidi, Nadin (35), Asep (28) and Achmad (68) were sent to hospital.

Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred when the van from Bogor, driven by Asep, zigzagged at high speed.

Asep lost control of the vehicle when another speeding van approached from the opposite direction. The two vans collided head-on. The three people died at the scene.

Bogor police said human error caused the fatal accident. "We will know exactly how the accident happened after Asep recovers," a police officer said. (sur)
