Three Killed as Motorcycle Hit by Taksaka Train at Kebumen Level Crossing
A fatal accident occurred at a level crossing on Jalan Revolusi, Karanganyar District, Kebumen Regency, Central Java, on Friday evening (19/6), claiming the lives of three people. The victims were riding a single Honda Beat motorcycle with registration number AA 4986 AED when it was struck by the Taksaka train.
The incident took place around 10 p.m. local time on the railway line between Kebumen and Banyumas. Kebumen Police Chief, Adjunct Senior Commissioner I Putu Bagus Krisna Purnama, stated that based on the crime scene investigation and witness accounts, the motorcyclist is believed to have proceeded through the crossing despite the barrier being fully closed.
"The motorcycle is suspected to have forced its way through the crossing when the barrier was already down. At the same moment, the Taksaka train travelling from Yogyakarta to Gambir passed through, making the collision unavoidable," the Police Chief said on Saturday (20/6).
The violent impact killed the motorcyclist, identified by the initial R, 36, a resident of Desa Pandansari, Sruweng District, at the scene. Two passengers, A, 31, from Desa Condongcampur, and E, 36, from Desa Penusupan, Sruweng District, also succumbed to severe injuries. Traffic police officers from Kebumen Police arrived at the location after receiving a report at 10.30 p.m. and evacuated the bodies to RSUD dr. Soedirman Kebumen for further examination.
The Kebumen Police Chief reminded the public not to ignore safety signs, especially at railway crossings. He stressed that trains cannot stop suddenly, making it extremely dangerous to force through closed barriers. "We urge all road users to prioritise safety. Do not take the risk of forcing through a closed barrier, as it can result in loss of life," he emphasised.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 5 Purwokerto expressed deep condolences over the incident. KAI Daop 5 Purwokerto Public Relations Manager M. As’ad Habibuddin called on the public to be more disciplined. "Safety at level crossings is a shared responsibility. We urge road users to be patient and always vigilant," As’ad said. KAI confirmed that there were no injuries among the Taksaka train crew or passengers, and that train operations continued normally without delays following the incident.
