Three kids lose mother in tollway accident

Evi Mariani, Jakarta

Two people were killed and four injured, three of them children, in a three-vehicle smash on the Wiyoto Wiyono tollroad in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, on Saturday at around 8:30 p.m.

A mother, Krisdawansah, 42, and her babysitter, Wiwin, 24, both of Cipete, South Jakarta, died in the accident. It was not known if the two were wearing seat belts.

Krisdawansah's children -- Ryan, 13; Gaby, 6; and Dina, 3 -- were all in the back seat of the car. They were injured in the accident and were taken to Persahabatan Hospital in Rawamangun, police said.

The driver of a third car, Yulianta, 29, was admitted to the Jakarta Islamic Hospital in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta.

The condition of the four injured in the accident was not known.

Police said the accident happened when a Mayasari Bhakti public bus driving from Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta to Cawang, East Jakarta, burst a front tire.

The driver lost control of the bus and crossed the iron separation barrier, spinning into oncoming traffic.

Krisdawansah, who was driving from the opposite direction, failed to stop in time and her Mercedes-Benz car hit the bus.

Yulianta, the driver of a Toyota Kijang van behind Krisdawansah's car, was injured when his van hit the barrier while taking evasive action.

The latest Jakarta Police data shows 268 people were killed in traffic accidents in the city from January to April, 536 others were seriously hurt and another 440 suffered minor injuries.
