Three Kediri Content Creators Arrested Over Pocong Horror Content for Sensationalism

Kediri Police Department in East Java has detained three individuals over the creation of pocong-style horror content that caused public concern on social media. Kediri Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKP Joshua Peter Krisnawan stated the arrests followed reports of residents dressed as pocong causing alarm. “Initial investigations revealed the motive was to seek sensationalism and gain social media attention,” he said. He added that the three suspects are still undergoing questioning to determine their roles, with no formal charges filed yet. According to him, the perpetrators were following similar viral trends from other regions on social media. Police have not yet disclosed the identities of the three individuals as the investigation is ongoing. Joshua urged the public to avoid creating content that causes alarm and to use social media responsibly. “We urge the public not to create alarming content and to exercise caution when using social media,” he said. Meanwhile, Kediri Deputy Regent Dewi Mariya Ulfa advised the public not to readily believe unverified information and to be wary of fake news on social media. “The public must not be easily misled by hoaxes, especially on social media. We have also issued warnings against believing unverified information,” she said. Previously, social media was flooded with reports of residents being detained after being seen dressed as pocong in Plosoklaten District, Kediri Regency. The individuals were questioned by locals. The pocong-like figure on the roadside caused public alarm, prompting residents to apprehend the individual.
