Three Injured in Fire at Pasar Jiung Kemayoran
Three people sustained injuries following a fire that struck a residential area in the Pasar Jiung Kemayoran district, Central Jakarta. Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Pol Reynold E. P. Hutagalund, confirmed the casualties on Tuesday (2/6).
Of the three victims, two individuals, identified as Puput and Dika, are receiving treatment at Hermina Kemayoran Hospital, while another victim, Suparno, has been referred to RSCM. Preliminary data indicates that 250 semi-permanent structures were destroyed, affecting approximately 300 families, or roughly 500 individuals.
Reynold stated that the police, alongside relevant authorities, have set up evacuation tents in the Kebon Kosong area to provide temporary shelter for those displaced by the fire. He also noted that coordination with the Brimob Unit of the Polda Metro Jaya is underway to provide essential needs through field kitchens, which began operating in the early hours of the morning.
The fire broke out in the densely populated Kebon Kosong area, Kemayoran, on Monday (1/6) night. A total of 35 fire engines and 175 personnel were deployed to the scene. Firefighting efforts began at 21:05 WIB and were successfully concluded approximately seven hours later, at 04:15 WIB.
During the firefighting process, residents were seen frantically evacuating valuables to the Jusuf Hamka field area. Supriatin, the Secretary of the Joint RT 12 to 16 RW04 Kebon Kosong, described the panic as the flames spread towards his home. He noted that he had just returned from working as a motorcycle taxi driver when the fire had already grown large, causing significant distress as his wife was unwell at home and suffered from shortness of breath due to the thick smoke. However, he confirmed that all three members of his family are safe.
