Foreign Minister of Indonesia Sugiono contacted and held a telephone conversation with Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi on Monday (30/3/2026). On that occasion, Sugiono conveyed deep concern regarding the recent Israeli attack on Lebanon that killed an Indonesian soldier.
“I held a telephone conversation with Lebanese Foreign Minister and Minister of Immigrants Youssef Raggi (30/3) to convey Indonesia’s deep concern following the recent incident, including the attack in southern Lebanon that resulted in the death of Indonesian UNIFIL peacekeeping troops,” Sugiono wrote on his official X account on Monday evening.
“We strongly condemn the attack and emphasise that the safety and security of UN peacekeeping troops must be fully respected at all times, in accordance with international law,” Sugiono added.
The Indonesian Foreign Minister revealed that he and Youssef Raggi agreed to maintain close coordination and follow up on necessary steps. At the same time, they will support efforts to ease tensions and maintain regional stability.
The Indonesian soldier who fell due to the Israeli attack in Lebanon was Corporal Farizal Rhomadhon. He was part of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon or UNIFIL. Corporal Farizal was killed after Israel launched an airstrike on the Adchit al-Qusayr area in southern Lebanon on Sunday (29/3/2026) evening local time.
In addition to Corporal Farizal, three Indonesian soldiers were also injured in the attack. They are Corporal Rico Pramudia, Corporal Bayu Prakoso, and Corporal Arif Kurniawan. Currently, UNIFIL is still conducting a thorough investigation into the attack that killed and injured the four Indonesian soldiers.
Israel began bombarding Lebanon on 2 March 2026. The aggression began after the Hezbollah group, as a form of support for Iran and in response to the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, also fired rockets into Israeli territory. Since then until now, Israel has continued to bombard Lebanon, including the capital city of Beirut.
The situation in the Middle East has heated up due to the aggression launched by the US and Israel against Iran on 28 February. Their attack also killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader.
