Three Indonesian TPPO Victims Suffer Economic Exploitation in Libya

Three victims of the Criminal Act of Human Trafficking (TPPO), identified by the initials NAR (21), SS (45), and NKR (39), suffered economic exploitation after being placed in a country that is not a designated placement for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). “These three TPPO victims are women and adults. There is a Manpower Ministry decree regarding PMI placement countries, and Libya is not included,” said Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Dr. Rita Wulandari Wibowo, in Jakarta on Tuesday. She stated that her party, together with the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation, handled and rescued the victims and took legal action. The three victims are currently receiving intensive care. Upon their return, they immediately underwent medical examinations. “Then, they will receive psychological strengthening and assessment to ensure they are in good condition,” she said. Rita explained that one of the victims suffered health problems due to irregular working hours, lack of rest, and inadequate food intake. Police have also ensured the victims’ rights, including legal protection. After this, the victims will be returned to their respective regions in a process called reintegration, with assistance from the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP3MI). “This is a form of integrated handling and ensures that the victims will arrive and be given protection to guarantee their safety,” said Rita. According to her, the repatriation of the three TPPO victims was the result of government-to-government cooperation between Indonesia and Libya, as well as the roles of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI). The police have named two suspects, R alias Ica and DY, in the human trafficking network that dispatched the Indonesian migrant workers non-procedurally, leading to their exploitation in Libya.
