Three Indonesian Soldiers Fall in Lebanon, Foreign Minister Sugiono Demands Thorough Investigation

The Indonesian government is demanding a thorough investigation into the attack on peacekeeping soldiers in Lebanon. Three TNI soldiers fell while on duty as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission. They were the late Major Inf (Anm) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar; the late Sergeant (Anm) Muhammad Nur Ichwan; and the late Corporal (Anm) Farizal Rhomadon. “We demand a thorough investigation because this is a peacekeeping mission,” said Foreign Minister (Menlu) Sugiono to reporters at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, as quoted on Sunday, 5 April 2026. An investigation is essential because peacekeeping forces should not be subjected to attacks. Sugiono stressed that there must be security guarantees for peacekeeping soldiers. “They are peacekeeping, not peace making. They are not equipped with the capability to make or peace making,” Sugiono stated. He also emphasised that peacekeepers are equipped and trained to maintain peace in peaceful situations. Therefore, he urged the United Nations (PBB) to reevaluate the safety of peacekeeping soldiers wherever they are, particularly in UNIFIL.
