Three Indonesian Nationals Missing in Strait of Hormuz, Foreign Ministry Asked to Strengthen Search with UAE
JAKARTA — A member of Commission I of the House of Representatives, Iman Sukri, has urged the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work diligently in searching for three Indonesian nationals missing in the Strait of Hormuz.
The three Indonesian nationals were reported missing after a ship flying the flag of the United Arab Emirates exploded and sank in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The government must coordinate with various countries, particularly the UAE, in conducting the search. All steps must be taken to ensure the three Indonesian nationals can be found quickly,” Iman stated on Monday, 9 March 2026.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must work hard and maximise the search for the three missing Indonesian crew members. The government must ensure that all rescue efforts are carried out optimally,” he added.
In the search operation, he also called on the Foreign Ministry to strengthen coordination with the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat.
“The Foreign Ministry must continue coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat, and maintain communication with local authorities and relevant countries to expand the search,” Iman said.
“We all hope that the three Indonesian nationals can be found soon in safe condition and be able to reunite with their families,” he added.
Three of the four crew members who are Indonesian nationals went missing after the tugboat Mufassah 2, flying the UAE flag, exploded and sank in the Strait of Hormuz, between UAE and Oman waters, on Friday, 6 March 2026 at 02.00 in the morning.
This information was received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat.
Currently, Indonesian representatives in the UAE and Oman are intensively coordinating with local authorities and the company operating the vessel in the search operation for the three missing Indonesian crew members, ensuring the care of one rescued Indonesian national, and updating the families of the missing individuals in Indonesia.
