President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from his longtime friend and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. The meeting lasted three hours, serving as an Eid greeting for 2026 as well as a discussion on the dynamics of the conflict in the Middle East.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the two leaders used the meeting to exchange views on global dynamics, particularly the geopolitical developments in the Middle East region. In addition, several strategic issues of common concern were also discussed in the dialogue.

“The atmosphere of the meeting was warm. In the friendly conversation, they exchanged Eid greetings while discussing the geopolitical dynamics in West Asia, as well as various strategic issues of mutual concern,” said Teddy in a statement from the Press, Media, and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat on Friday (27/3/2026).

Teddy also mentioned that the meeting lasted approximately three hours, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. WIB. After the meeting, Prabowo personally escorted Anwar Ibrahim to the TNI AU Halim Perdanakusuma Base.

“The meeting lasted around three hours from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Afterwards, President Prabowo escorted Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s departure in the same car to Halim Airport,” Teddy revealed.

Previously, Anwar Ibrahim stated that Malaysia and Indonesia agreed to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East.

“In the increasingly acute global uncertainty, Malaysia and Indonesia emphasise the need to strengthen principled regional unity to maintain security, ensure stability, and bolster economic resilience for the people’s welfare,” he said.

Indonesia and Malaysia, according to Anwar, agreed to de-escalate the conflict so that war victims in the Middle East do not increase. Moreover, with the conflict subsiding, it is hoped that the world economy can recover.

“We agree to intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict, protect civilian lives, and open space for negotiations towards a safe and lasting resolution. At the same time, the continuity of global supply chains and strategic trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, must be ensured not to be disrupted,” he stated.
