Three-Hectare Sinkhole Appears in Central Aceh, Cutting Inter-District Access
A sinkhole appeared in Pondok Balik village, Central Aceh regency, Aceh, on Wednesday (4 November 2026). The ground collapse, estimated to extend across three hectares, is about 50 to 100 metres deep. The subsidence of underground soil layers formed a large cavity that swallowed parts of residents’ plantations.
The incident has also cut the road connecting neighbouring districts, disrupting mobility for local residents. In addition to altering the landscape, the phenomenon has directly affected people whose daily activities depend on the road and nearby plantation areas.
