Three Hajj Bureau Bosses Skip KPK Examination in Hajj Quota Case

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Three hajj bureau executives did not comply with the KPK summons, or absconded, to be examined as witnesses in the alleged corruption case of hajj quotas involving former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

“The witnesses did not show up,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in his statement on Saturday (25/4/2026).

Out of the four summoned, only one hajj bureau executive complied with the investigators’ call, namely Syarif Thalib as the Operational Director of PT Marco Tour & Travel.

Meanwhile, Asep Inwanudin as Director of PT Medina Mitra Wisata, Ibnu Mas’ud as Commissioner of PT Muhibbah Mulia Wisata, and Mahmud Muchtar Syarif as President Director of PT Almuchtar Tour and Travel, collectively did not attend the scheduled examination.

This includes delving into allegations of unjust enrichment obtained by the organisers of special hajj worship (PIHK).

When examined by the KPK, Khalid also returned money amounting to Rp 8.4 billion.

“So, PT Muhibbah returned the funds to us, we don’t know what the money is for. The amount is around Rp 8.4 billion, right. Yes, it was returned,” said Khalid, after being examined as a witness in the case at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Thursday (23/4/2026).

Khalid claimed he did not know the origin of the money he handed over.

He surrendered the money in US dollar denominations to the KPK after the anti-corruption agency conducted an investigation into the hajj quota case.

“That money (Rp 8.4 billion) was given by PT Muhibbah, then we don’t know what it is, the KPK asked for it, we returned it when asked. That’s the extent of it. So, once again, in this case, we are the victims,” he said.

“So, when the KPK asked for it, we returned it because we didn’t know the status of that money,” he added.
