YOGYAKARTA — The Tourism Office of Gunungkidul District in the Special Region of Yogyakarta has predicted that three tourist destinations will become favourites among visitors during the Eid holiday in 2026 from 20 to 25 March.

“Based on end-of-year trends that we anticipate, we need to concentrate our vigilance at Drini, Gesing, and Watugupit,” said Hary Sukmono, Head of the Tourism, Creative Economy, Youth and Sports Office of Gunungkidul, when contacted on Thursday (12 March 2026).

Drini Beach features several artificial attractions including Drini Park and On The Rock; Gesing Beach offers Gesing Wonderland, Teras Kaca, and Heha; whilst Watugupit Beach features scenic views and Obelix.

“We are coordinating with various parties to anticipate the influx of visitors to these locations,” said Hary.

“We are optimistic about reaching our targets,” said Nanang.

Steps already taken include coordination with relevant agencies such as the National Police, Transportation Office, Civil Police, Armed Forces, Public Works and Spatial Planning Office, Disaster Management Agency, Environmental Office, Health Office, Indonesian Red Cross, Rescue Services, community tourism groups, tourism villages, and tourism business operators.

In preparing to receive incoming visitors to Gunungkidul District, this coordination also addressed price transparency for merchants and tourism service providers.

“We have instructed merchants to provide price transparency,” said Nanang.
