Three get life in Vietnam graft scam
HANOI (AFP): Three former officials have been sentenced to
life in jail for their involvement in a major corruption case at
a Vietnamese state-owned textile firm, a report said yesterday.
Two former general directors of Nam Dinh textile firm, Nguyen
Duy Kiem and Nguyen Van Tuyen, and its chief accountant Tran Ngoc
Vinh were sentenced after being convicted of embezzlement
Saturday, the official Nhan Dan daily said.
The major defendant Kiem, who was also a former general
director of Vietnam Garment and Textile Corporation, was accused
of embezzling socialist properties, contravening regulations,
making false reports in economic management and a lack of
responsibility which led to serious consequences.
