HANOI (AFP): Three former officials have been sentenced to life in jail for their involvement in a major corruption case at a Vietnamese state-owned textile firm, a report said yesterday.
Two former general directors of Nam Dinh textile firm, Nguyen Duy Kiem and Nguyen Van Tuyen, and its chief accountant Tran Ngoc Vinh were sentenced after being convicted of embezzlement Saturday, the official Nhan Dan daily said.
The major defendant Kiem, who was also a former general director of Vietnam Garment and Textile Corporation, was accused of embezzling socialist properties, contravening regulations, making false reports in economic management and a lack of responsibility which led to serious consequences.
