Three Freeport vehicles shot at Mile 60, police hunt for perpetrators

Timika (ANTARA) - The 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force, alongside the Mimika Police and relevant authorities, is investigating the shooting of three vehicles within a PT Freeport Indonesia convoy at the Mile Point 60 Mining Road, Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua.

The Head of Public Relations for the 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force, Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo, stated in Timika on Friday that the three targeted vehicles consisted of two buses and one tow truck.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday (2/9) at approximately 08:25 WIT as the convoy was travelling from the Mile Point 68 Tembagapura area towards Timika City.

“From initial examinations, three vehicles were hit: two buses and one tow truck. However, there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident,” he said.

According to Yusuf, the driver of bus number 140591 only realised the vehicle had been hit after hearing several gunshots while passing through the Mile Point 60 area.

The driver of bus number 140575 also reported hearing shots while passing the area and only discovered the damage after an inspection at Mile Point 58.

Similarly, the driver of tow truck number 021074 reported hearing three gunshots from the left side of the road as the group moved from the RPU 47 Post towards the RPU 46 Post in the Mile Point 60 area.

Yusuf stated that joint personnel have inspected the damaged vehicles and conducted a crime scene investigation (CSI) at the location.
