Three Former Customs Officials to Face Trial Over Blueray Cargo Bribery Case
Public prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have transferred the case files and evidence of three former officials from the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court. The three individuals are Rizal, former Director of Enforcement and Investigation; Sisprian Subiaksono, former Sub-Director of Intelligence at the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation; and Orlando Hamonangan, former Head of Customs Intelligence Section I at the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation.
“Today we carried out the administrative transfer, including the indictment and case files, at the One-Stop Integrated Service of the Central Jakarta District Court,” said KPK Prosecutor Takdir Suhan in a written statement on Tuesday (23/6). Takdir stated that the process is ongoing and the prosecution is now waiting for the court to set a trial date.
“The defendants in question are charged with receiving bribes and gratuities amounting to more than Rp71 billion, partly in foreign currency,” Takdir added. The bribe givers in this case are Blueray Cargo (Group) executive John Field, Operations Manager of Port Customs Clearance at Blueray Cargo (Group) Dedy Kurniawan Sukolo, and Head of the Import Document Team at Blueray Cargo (Group) Andri.
John Field was sentenced to three years in prison and a fine of Rp300 million, with a subsidiary penalty of 100 days in custody, for allegedly bribing several officials at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. Meanwhile, Dedy Kurniawan Sukolo and Andri were each sentenced to two years and six months in prison and a fine of Rp200 million, with a subsidiary penalty of 80 days in prison.
Based on the legal facts revealed during the trial, KPK prosecutors are convinced that John Field and his subordinates were proven to have committed the criminal acts as charged, namely bribing a number of officials at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to ensure that goods imported by the Blueray Cargo Group were cleared more quickly from customs supervision.
