Three die in ferry mishap

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Dozens of people are missing and three have been found dead when a wooden ferry hit floating logs and sank in the Berombang River, Labuhan Batu regency of North Sumatra Tuesday.

Antara reported local police said yesterday the ferry, with carrying capacity of 50 tons, had been sailing the river to Tanjung Sarang. It smashed into some logs and was shattered.

The agency gave no further details.

Police and rescue workers, assisted by local people, are still searching for the missing people. (swe)
