Three die from food poisoning

BANYUMAS, Central Java: Three people have died and 40 others have been hospitalized for food poisoning from a wedding party last week, an official said yesterday.

Chief of the Banyumas health office Mambo Diyanto said that the victims are believed to have consumed food contaminated with salmonella bacteria.

The incident happened last Thursday after the victims attended a wedding party in the Karangkemojing village. Scores of people reportedly fell ill upon arriving home with the same symptoms: dizziness, vomiting and stomach pains.

"We strongly believe that they consumed expired food contaminated with salmonella," Diyanto told The Jakarta Post. (wah/pan)
