Three defendants in a crude oil governance corruption case have filed an appeal against the nine-to-ten-year prison sentences issued by the panel of judges. The appeal was officially filed today.

The three defendants are Riva Siahaan, the former Chief Executive Officer of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga (PT PPN); Maya Kusmaya, the former Director of Marketing Central and Trading at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga; and Edward Corne, the former VP of Trading Operations at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga.

‘Today we have lodged the appeal to the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court for our clients, Mr Riva Siahaan, Mr Maya Kusmaya and Mr Edward Corne,’ the defendants’ counsel, Kresna Hutauruk, told reporters at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Wednesday (4 March 2026).

Kresna said the appeal was made because they did not agree with the judges’ ruling. According to Kresna, all three clients had worked in accordance with guidelines and had no malicious intent.

‘In essence, why are we appealing? Because we do not agree, we and our clients do not agree with the judges’ decision, and our clients are also disappointed with the judges’ judgement,’ he said.

‘Because, in our view, the judges’ majority considerations were not in line with and were not based on the trial’s facts,’ he added.

Kresna welcomed the dissenting opinion of the judge member Mulyono Dwi Purwanto relating to the calculation of state financial losses in this case. He also welcomed the panel’s decision that the calculation of the state economy valued at Rp 171 trillion was not proven and was speculative.

‘Ttentunya, we are confident that the existence of the dissenting opinion by a member of the bench, Mr Mulyono, shows that the judges’ decision is not unanimous, not entirely in agreement. The dissenting opinion states there is no loss to the state, no unlawful conduct, and no mens rea,’ he said.

The verdict hearing for Riva, Maya, and Edward had previously been held at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday (26 February). The three were found guilty of conspiring to commit corruption in the crude oil governance case.

Here are the verdict details:

  1. Riva Siahaan sentenced to 9 years’ imprisonment, a fine of Rp 1 billion, with a subsidiary imprisonment of 190 days.

  2. Maya Kusmaya sentenced to 9 years’ imprisonment, a fine of Rp 1 billion, with a subsidiary imprisonment of 190 days.

  3. Edward Corne sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of Rp 1 billion, with a subsidiary imprisonment of 190 days.
