JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Three defendants in the alleged corruption case of procuring Chromebook-based laptops have been demanded sentences of 6 to 15 years in prison by Public Prosecutors (JPU) from the Attorney General’s Office.

The three defendants are former technology consultant Ibrahim Arief, Director of Primary Schools (SD) during the tenure of Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim, namely Sri Wahyuningsih, and former Director of Junior Secondary Schools (SMP) during Nadiem’s era, Mulyatsyah.

Here are the demands presented by the prosecutors for the three defendants:

Former Technology Consultant in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), Ibrahim Arief, is demanded the longest sentence of 15 years in prison.

“We demand that the panel of judges impose a prison sentence of 15 years on defendant Ibrahim Arief, along with a fine of Rp1 billion, subsidiary 190 days in prison,” stated Public Prosecutor (JPU) Roy Riady while reading the indictment at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Thursday (16/4/2026).

If this money is not paid, the JPU demands that Ibrahim be given an additional 7.5 years in prison.

In this case, Ibrahim, commonly known as Ibam, did not enrich himself or receive funds from the Chromebook procurement.

He is believed to have produced a technical study referencing a specific product, namely Chromebook.

This presentation influenced the ministry officials to select Chromebook as the product for procurement.

Meanwhile, the Director of Primary Schools at Kemendikbudristek from 2020–2021, Sri Wahyuningsih, and the Director of Junior Secondary Schools at Kemendikbudristek from 2020–2021, Mulyatsyah, both serving as Budget Users’ Representatives (KPA), are each demanded 6 years in prison with a fine of Rp500 million.

“We demand that the panel of judges impose a prison sentence of 6 years on the defendant, along with a fine of Rp500 million, subsidiary 120 days in prison,” stated JPU Roy Riady.

They were also involved in preparing technical documents that directed the procurement to select Chromebook.

Sri did not receive funds from the procurement.

Meanwhile, Mulyatsyah is said to have received SGD120,000 and USD150,000.

Converted at the 2021 exchange rate, the total amount received by Mulyatsyah reaches Rp3.3 billion.
