Three dead in waste landslide at Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEKASI — The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) disclosed that three people have died after being buried by a waste landslide at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST Bantargebang), Ciketing Udik Village, Bantargebang District, Bekasi City. The head of the Jakarta SAR Office, Desiana Kartika Bahari, in a briefing in Jakarta on Sunday (8 March 2026), explained that the three victims consisted of two women and one man. They were a shop owner and a truck driver.
The identities of the victims are Enda Widayanti (25) and Sumine (60), who were shop owners. The third victim, Dedi Sutrisno, was a truck driver, he said.
Desiana added that at present the authorities are still taking stock because there are still trucks buried under the waste and stalls at the scene.
She also said that a number of personnel from the Bekasi SAR Readiness Unit, the Bekasi City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and the Jakarta Provincial BPBD had been deployed. In addition, several equipment had been deployed to assist with the evacuation.
Earlier, a video circulated on Instagram posted by the account @lbj_jakarta. The video showed a mound of waste at Bantargebang collapsing again and several trucks were reported buried.
The incident, which occurred around 15:30 WIB, was triggered by heavy rainfall that had drenched Bekasi since early afternoon. The state of the waste heap, which had reached a critical height, made it unstable until the waste material spilled over, covering the access road and burying trucks waiting to load and unload, the account wrote.
