Three dead in rain-induced lahar floods along the Senowo River, Magelang
Rescue operations to locate victims of the rain-induced lahar floods in the Senowo River, which originates from Mount Merapi in Magelang, yielded results. Joint-team personnel succeeded in locating two victims dead, while two others were still missing.
“For today’s SAR operation on day two, we split the team into three SRUs. SRU 1 is attached to a K9 unit from Polresta Magelang,” said Arif Yulianto, Coordinator of the Borobudur SAR Readiness Unit, to reporters at the Senowo River search site, as reported by DetikJateng, Wednesday (4/3/2026).
“SRU 2 conducts sweeping from the place where the incident dragged to the first dam. Then SRU 3 from dam one to dam two to end at Bendo,” Arif said.
For the search results, Arif said, today we have found two victims. So far, three people have died due to this rain lahar flood.
“For the results of the search today, alhamdulillah we have found 2 victims out of information that there are 4 victims being searched,” Arif added. “For now, we have found two victims (deceased),” he continued.
The two victims found dead are Fuad Hasan, a resident of Ngargosoko Srumbung, and Heru, a resident of Krinjing Dukun.
