JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming carried out a three-day working visit to four provinces on the island of Papua from 20-22 April 2026.

Gibran emphasised that all government programmes in Papua must provide real impact for the community.

“We ensure that the programmes from the President run well in Papua, and most importantly, these programmes are all impactful for the people of Papua,” Gibran said after inspecting JP Wanane Hospital in Sorong Regency, Southwest Papua, on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

The four regions visited by Gibran were Nabire in Central Papua; Yahukimo in Highland Papua; Timika in West Papua; and Sorong and Raja Ampat in Southwest Papua.

According to him, the presence of the media plays an important role in conveying development progress to the wider community.

He added that the visit was accompanied by central and regional government officials, as a form of synergy in accelerating development in Papua.

“In this visit, we were also accompanied by Mr Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Djamari Chaniago), regional heads, Forkopimda, all complete. We, as the President’s assistants, are committed to accelerating development in Papua,” he continued.

The Vice President of Indonesia stressed that the current government continues to strengthen coordination through various instruments, including special institutions for accelerating development in Papua.

“Moreover, now there is the Committee (Executive Committee for Accelerating Special Autonomy Development in Papua), there is BP3OKP, everyone is working together shoulder to shoulder to accelerate development in Papua,” he explained.

Furthermore, he invited the public to continue providing input as part of ongoing evaluation of government programmes.

“Once again, input and evaluations from all citizens, especially Papuan citizens, are very meaningful to us all,” he stated.

In addition to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, several other officials accompanied Gibran, including Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk, Chairman of the Executive Committee for Accelerating Special Autonomy Development in Papua Velix Wanggai, and Acting Secretary to the Vice President Al Muktabar.
