Prices of staple goods in several traditional markets in Karangasem Regency, Bali, have been creeping up ahead of the Galungan holiday. In fact, the price of chillies reached Rp 90,000 per kilogram on D-3 of Galungan. Grocery trader Ni Ketut Sariani at Pasar Amlapura Timur said the prices of staples such as chillies, shallots, garlic, and others have been rising over the past few weeks. According to Sariani, the increase in chilli prices has been the highest compared to other staples. ‘The price has been increasing gradually by Rp 1,000 to Rp 2,000, rising every day for the past few weeks,’ Sariani said on Sunday (14/6/2026). Currently, the price of chillies at Pasar Amlapura Timur has reached Rp 90,000 per kilogram. Shallots are priced at Rp 50,000 per kilogram, garlic at Rp 40,000, tomatoes at Rp 18,000, and large red chillies at Rp 40,000. ‘It is likely to continue increasing in the next two days,’ Sariani added. Meanwhile, the prices of chicken and pork remain stable for now. However, meat traders at Pasar Amlapura Timur noted that meat prices usually rise on D-2 of Galungan. ‘The current price of chicken is Rp 45,000 per kilogram and pork is Rp 85,000 per kilogram,’ said Nyoman Murniani, a meat trader at the market. The Karangasem Regency Government has organised a low-cost market to suppress the increase in staple food prices ahead of Galungan and Kuningan. Through this market, residents can purchase basic necessities at lower prices.
