Trade Minister Budi Santoso stated that the government is currently seeking new sources of plastic raw materials amid the global crisis triggered by supply chain disruptions due to conflicts in the Middle East region.

He assured that there are already three countries that will become new suppliers of plastic raw materials for Indonesia, namely Africa, India, and the United States (US).

He even mentioned that the import process for plastic raw materials from these three countries is already underway, and it is just a matter of time before they arrive in the country.

“We are seeking alternatives from India, America, and Africa. From all three, the processes are already underway, but it takes time. So now it’s still in process with the existing stock,” said Budi at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Jakarta, on Monday, 13 April 2026.

He hopes that the supply of plastic raw materials from these three countries can arrive as soon as possible, so that domestic supply can increase and plastic prices can gradually decrease starting this month.

“Hopefully (plastic prices will decrease soon),” Budi remarked.

In addition to these three countries, Budi acknowledged that his side is still continuously seeking plastic raw material suppliers from other countries to meet domestic needs.

“So this is indeed a global crisis; our suppliers have mostly been from the Middle East so far. But alternatives from other countries have partially been secured. Earlier, there were three countries, and we continue to seek other countries that can supply plastic pellet raw materials,” said Budi.

On the other hand, Budi stated that the government has also coordinated with trade representatives abroad to help find alternative raw material supply sources from other countries. He acknowledged that the current plastic raw material crisis is global in nature.

“Because several producer countries such as Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore are also experiencing the same production disruptions,” he said.
